Industry Affairs

Industry Affairs is the primary focus for TIACA and is one of the key benefits for members, providing them updates and advance warnings of regulatory and other changes that impact the air cargo industry.
The Industry Affairs Committee is the channel through which a substantial portion of TIACA’s purpose and goals are implemented. The Committee’s primary role is to establish TIACA as the principal representative of the air cargo industry and its activities around the world. It ensures that the Association’s views are professionally represented within the industry, with related enterprises, with global business entities, with governments and with relevant organizations.
The Committee promotes the critical objectives for the industry, as identified by TIACA; formulates TIACA’s positions and policy responses; and seeks ways to identify and address potential problems before they reach the crisis stage. It explores new ideas and innovative concepts to advance world trade as it relates to air cargo logistics. The Industry Affairs Committee has targeted four major industry issues as priorities: security and safety, market access and trade facilitation, e-commerce and quality management, and the environment and infrastructure.
Policy recommendations for consideration by the Committee are developed at the subcommittee level by specialists in each one of the four focus areas:
Security and Safety (click for committee page)
TIACA aims to assist policymakers to effectively address security issues, in the United States, the EU, and other countries. Given its membership across the air cargo supply chain and its international focus, TIACA is uniquely positioned to address issues such as global harmonization, security protocols for international cargo, and best practices. The Association represents members’ interests on security issues with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and its counterpart agencies in other countries, and with ICAO.
Market Access and Trade Facilitation (click for committee page)
TIACA seeks enhanced market access and more efficient customs and border practices for air cargo shipments. This will help to facilitate trade and economic growth, and will capitalize on air cargo’s key competitive advantage, speed. TIACA members’ interests are represented at the WCO and ICAO, with relevant national governments, and in appropriate public forums.
E-Commerce and Quality Management (click for committee page)
TIACA is working to assist the industry’s transition from paper-based to electronic processes, including e-AWB and e-freight. We also support development of effective quality measurement and management tools to assist the industry in this transition, and to enhance the value of air cargo services.
Environment and Infrastructure (click for committee page)
TIACA focuses on environmental issues that affect the air cargo industry. We seek to complement the efforts of ATAG, IATA and others with air cargo-specific information and advocacy. The Industry Affairs Committee aims to educate, inform and communicate with TIACA members on each of these key issues.
